From Skid Marks to Silky Soft: The Birth of Top Underwear

Since I was a little kid, I’ve been obsessed with comfort. Whether it was cotton underwear, socks with “foof foofs,” or itchy wool sweaters, I was always on a mission to find the softest, most comfortable clothes I could get my hands on. Back then, luxury wasn’t an option—especially for kids.

Twelve years ago, when I became a parent, I noticed something strange. Girls had endless cozy, stylish clothing choices. But boys? They were stuck with stiff, scratchy, cartoon-covered underwear that didn’t care about comfort.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

One day after potty training, my son raced off the toilet, too excited about life to bother wiping. I mentioned it to my dad on FaceTime, and he laughed:

“You were the same way! Most of your underwear had skid marks because you were too busy to wipe.”

Then he added:

“I still do it and when it gets bad, I just throw ‘em out.”

We all cracked up. Three generations, laughing over the same, slightly gross but oddly bonding experience.

That conversation stuck with me.

What if there were underwear that embraced this honesty—and solved it? What if it came in brown (let’s be real), felt luxurious, and was actually made for boys, dads, and even grandfathers?

I searched everywhere and came up empty. Everything for boys was 100% cotton and character-driven. The men’s section had modal and premium blends, but nothing for kids. So I decided to build it myself.

Two years and countless prototypes later, Top Underwear was born.

Crafted from 95% modal for a silky, barely-there feel, Top is the world’s first underwear line designed for comfort across three generations: boys, dads, and grandfathers. The color? A tribute to my dad—“Topper”—and his hilarious, humble wisdom.
